ノラ・ジョーンズ、2021年にリリースされ大きな話題を呼んだ初のクリスマス・アルバム『アイ・ドリーム・オブ・クリスマス』に、新録曲やライヴ・パフォーマンスを追加した2枚組となるデラックス・エディションが登場!

9つのグラミー賞受賞経験を持つノラが満を持して2021年にリリースしたクリスマス・アルバムはクリスマスの名曲のカヴァーの中にホリデイをテーマにしたオリジナル曲を散りばめたアルバムで、歌詞の中にジョリー・ジョーンズ( Jolly とは、クリスマス・シーズンによく使用される言葉で Happy などの類語)などノラ・ジョーンズをもじった言葉なども登場し、遊び心が随所に見られるクリスマスにぴったりの作品。

カヴァー曲は、誰もが一度は耳にしたことのある「ホワイト・クリスマス」「クリスマス・ワンダーランド」などの名曲で、ノラのスモーキーな歌声と優しいピアノでアレンジされた。プロデューサーは、『ビギン・アゲイン』の「イット・ワズ・ユー」や『ピック・ミー・アップ・オフ・ザ・フロア』に収録された「セイ・ノー・モア」「トゥ・リヴ」などにテナー・サックスとして参加していたレオン・ミッチェルズが務め、アルバムに収録されている「クリスマスタイム」と「ユーアー・ノット・アローン」では共作者としてノラと名を連ねている。

今回追加される楽曲は、「ハヴ・ユアセルフ・ア・メリー・リトル・クリスマス」や「ザ・クリスマス・ワルツ」といったクリスマスの定番曲のスタジオ新録、そして昨年末に行われたエンパイア・ステート・ビルディングでのパフォーマンス音源で、計11曲、約40分という大ボリューム。今年の冬も、ノラと楽しもう。

As one of the most prominent jazz-pop singers of the modern era, its a bit surprising that Norah Jones hasnt released a Christmas album before now. Her music has always had a sense of style and class, so perhaps she was waiting until shed written a batch of seasonal material strong enough to go up against standards like Irving Berlins "White Christmas" and Vince Guaraldis "Christmas Time Is Here." On I Dream of Christmas, her eighth studio album, she offers both. Tucked amid elegant arrangements of the two aforementioned standards are crafty Jones originals like "Christmas Calling (Jolly Jones)" and "Its Only Christmas Once a Year," each one built to last more than one season. Sung in her intimate, relaxed style, bluesy riffs on the Chipmunks "Christmas Dont Be Late" and Elvis Presleys "Blue Christmas" take on new life, while "Ill Be Home for Christmas" has never sounded quite so sultry. The original "Youre Not Alone" is a timeless bit of Yuletide gospel soul that goes shoulder to shoulder with the reliably evergreen "Ill Be Home for Christmas." Playful, cozy, and effortlessly low-key, I Dream of Christmas has all the hallmarks of a seasonal staple. ~ Timothy Monger
